Work Type:
My work type is ESTJ and my style is that
of the "fact-minded, practical organizer." I like to organize
projects and make sure they are completed. I like being a manager
and like to work with people who are focused on getting the job
done in a structured environment where there are rewards available
for succeeding. I deal with people in a direct way with consistency
and fairness. I consider myself to be loyal and dependable.
Career Type:
My primary career type is "conventional."
I like to be accurate and responsible as well as practical in
working and making decisions. I enjoy working on teams and both
leading and making a significant contribution. I do not prefer
a lot of change in my environment. My secondary career type is
"enterprising." I can be aggressive and hard driving when there
is a job that needs to get done. I communicate well with my staff.
I have always been valued as a key manager in my company where
I have worked for over ten years. My tertiary career type is "realistic."
I spend my off-work hours in my garden and working around the
house, and I take pride in being able to make minor repairs on
my own car. At work, I have always been considered to be very
practical, "hands-on," and technically capable.
Motivation
Work Environment Interests:
I like to work with people who are constantly
pressing toward higher performance, who are demanding of completion
and closure, who are highly organized, who are mostly interested
in communicating face-to-face, and who are able to turn out
very large quantities of work from day-to-day. I like working
in a suburban environment, in an office with windows looking
out on an interesting view, in a quiet, low-keyed office, among
modern architecture.
Career Drivers:
My primary career driver is "affiliation."
I have been extremely loyal to my company and consider my career
to revolve around being able to do the best job I can do to
support my companyís success. I have moved four times in ten
years in order to do a job that was needed in different divisions
in my organization. My secondary career driver is "professional
achievement." I tend to be very good at what I do and am interested
in excelling and doing the best job I can. I take management
training courses whenever possible and have attended major management
development programs at universities.
Values and Needs:
The most important values and needs
currently satisfied in my worklife include affiliation, challenging
problems, respect from others, achievement, and security. I
would like to see the following values and needs better satisfied
in my worklife and need to focus my attention so I can bring
these into fruition: prestige/recognition, advancement, challenging
problems, independence, and high earnings.
Work Activitiy Interests:
When I work, I enjoy calming people
down, classifying and categorizing information, inventing new
ways of doing things, solving organizational problems, and hiring
people.
Skill
(People, Data, Physical, Adaptive):
I consider my top skills to be managing
people, working effectively on a team, synthesizing facts and
ideas, coordinating events and operations, and solving problems.
I use these almost every day in my work and have seen significant
growth in my mastery of these skills. I need development in
acknowledging others, resolving conflict, listening attentively,
showing warmth and respect, and operating a computer terminal.
I plan to give more attention to these shortcomings through
courses and through focusing on developing these skills on the
job.
My top adaptive skills include being
attentive to details, strong-willed, self-correcting, perceptive,
and industrious. These have been extremely useful to me throughout
my career not only as a manager, but also when I was working
my way up the ladder. I need development in being spontaneous,
concerned about people, expressive, dynamic, and open to others.
I am uncertain about how to deal with these and will seek professional
guidance through coursework or reading.
Internal Barriers
I would like to eliminate or reduce
the following internal barriers: lack of diplomacy, stubbornness,
impatience, insensitivity to needs and feelings of others, and
being confronting to others.
