Mid-Level Corporate Manager

Style

Work Type:

My work type is ISTJ and my style is that of the "analytical manager of facts and details." I am practical, logical, dependable, orderly, matter-of-fact, and well organized. Every job I have has been one that requires my being well organized and able to work with numbers or other detailed pieces of information that have to be remembered, analyzed, put into the right place, and properly categorized. I get a lot of pleasure from managing in an orderly, well structured, and stable environment without too many surprises.

Career Type:

My primary career type is "conventional." I have a small group of long-term close friends with whom I spend time and share common life experiences. I want the people I work with to be orderly and to pay attention to the structure and rules of the organization. I also like my own work to be accurate and practical. I donít like flashy people, ideas, or ways of working. My secondary career type is "investigative." I am analytical in my thinking and enjoy solving problems where I have to use my head to think through the solutions. I have faithful and long-term relationships with a small number of close friends and colleagues. I like to work on teams as long as I am free to make my individual contribution without too much distraction from others. My tertiary career type is "artistic." I read extensively in the arts, attend the theater on a regular basis, and have even acted in community and college theater. When I retire, I would love to be involved in the theater, even as an amateur.

Motivation

Work Environment Interests:

I enjoy working with people who are interested in maintaining their own standards, who like to get their own work done without a lot of interaction from others, are willing to leave my personal life out of the conversation, who are demanding of completion and closure, and who are practical and down-to-earth. I prefer my work environment to be in a closed place where I can concentrate on my work. I want to be able to go the same place every day, preferably in a suburban setting, in a quiet, low-keyed office.

Career Drivers:

My primary career driver is "life-work balance." I am most interested in ensuring that I have a balanced life that includes my interests outside of work, my family, and my friends, and that work doesnít dominate my life. I work hard when I am in the office and do a good job, because I want to be able to feel free and comfortable about pursuing my other interests. My secondary career driver is "professional achievement." I am very interested in being an expert in my field and work and study toward developing a better understanding and more knowledge.

Values and Needs:

The most important values and needs currently satisfied in my worklife include order, security, job tranquility, location, and challenging problems. My current job satisfies those needs. They are important enough to me that I would change companies if they could not be satisfied. Those areas that are not yet satisfied include stability, time freedom, working alone, intellectual status, and leisure. I believe that I am working toward the satisfaction of these needs as I grow in my present job and in the company.

Work Activitiy Interests:

I enjoy calculating taxes, carrying out detailed instructions, cost accounting, maintaining financial records, and managing investments.

Skills

(People, Data, Physical, Adaptive):

My most important skills include administering policy and programs, organizing information logically, negotiating contracts, keeping records, and thinking logically. I use these continuously on my current job and would want to continue using these skills wherever I worked. The skills that I consider to be most in need of development include relating to a wide variety of people, communicating effectively, using statistics, delegating responsibility, and resolving conflicts. I also feel that here, as in the values and needs area, that these skills will be developed as I grow in my job and the company.

My most important adaptive skills include being hardworking, organized, self-disciplined, steady, and reliable. I need to work on improving in being more open to others, imaginative, concerned about people, demanding of others, and a better team player.

Internal Barriers

The internal barriers that I feel can hold me back the most and that I need to give attention to overcoming include difficulty with taking criticism, black-or-white thinking, difficulty selling myself, being easily irritated, and inflexibility.
